Teaching, Testing, Learning, & Leading: A Policy Roundtable for Elementary School Principals and Early Learning Leaders
On May 1, 2010, The CAYL Institute held Teaching, Testing, Learning & Leading: A roundtable for Massachusetts Elementary School Principals and Early Learning Leader. Joined by Dr. Jacqueline Jones, Senior Advisor to the Secretary for Early Learning, Office of the Secretary, U.S. Department of Education and Dr. Jerlean Daniel, NAEYC Executive Director, Designate — over 100 educators, administrators, and community advocates from across the Commonwealth came together to discuss the importance of developmentally appropriate assessments for young learners; the proposed national core education standards and their potential impact on children birth to eight years, and the significance of moving forward with the creation of a seamless education system that effectively address the needs of the "whole child" and the "whole student" —from birth through higher education and beyond. Roundtable highlights included: • Interactive discussion sessions facilitated by the CAYL BPS Principals Fellows, where participants from across the Commonwealth engaged in dialogue about their joint roles in meeting the care and education needs of young children; how the creation of strong partnerships across settings can improve transitions for children and families, and maximize the benefit of collaborate professional development opportunities for educators of early learners.
