Wean Orientation 2011-2012

The CAYL Institute, in collaboration with the Raymond John Wean Foundation and local school districts, is supporting an initiative to strengthen Principals’ individual and collective capacity to enrich early education using the latest research, tools, and strategies.
On September 9, 2011, nine elementary school principals from the Ohio Counties of Mahoning and Trumbull began a one-year Fellowship as part of a local multi-year initiative to support school improvement through Principal leadership.  Working together, the 9 Principals, along with 13 Principals who participated in the fellowship in 2010-2011 set goals for their individual schools.

“Over the past year, these amazing local Principals have worked together to focus on achievement. We see impressive results in these Principals’ efforts to connect with their communities and create a strong foundation for young learners.”

Professional Development Accelerates in Massachusetts

EEC has defined and established a system of 6 regional Educator Provider Support (EPS) partnerships to provide professional development across the state of Massachusetts to the early education and out of school time field.  As part of this process, EEC defined goals for professional development and the primary customers for these services.

For this fiscal year, EEC has provided grants to each of these 6 EPS regions to create and implement Acceleration Plans.  The goal of this acceleration strategy is for each region to identify an area in which significant improvement can be made and set goals to be achieved by July 2012.  Because these plans are individualized for each region, the area of focus will not only align with the EEC goals but will also address a challenge unique to the region.  Each plan will contain the steps and resources to achieve the goals as well as provide benchmarks.

The CAYL Institute is playing a large role in facilitating the creation of each of these 6 unique acceleration plans through a series of conference calls and site visits.  The regions have made significant progress in creating their acceleration plans and have chosen topics including Coaching and Mentoring, English Language Learners and addressing geographic challenges.  The acceleration plans will be complete and implementation will begin in December.
